This guide is a timely addition to Conway's best-selling pocket book series that examines this famous ship from a refreshingly different angle. Launched in May 1911, the triple-screw steamer Titanic was the pride of the White Star Line and at that time the largest passenger ship in the world. Built to carry passengers in comfort and luxury on the lucrative transatlantic route, her design, fittings and on board facilites epitomised the spirit of the age in terms of elegance and style. Titanic boasted a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a squash court, Turkish and Electric baths, and a verandah cafe. First class common rooms were adorned with ornate wood panelling, expensive furniture and other decorations. Cuisine was advertised as the equal of Europe's top restaurants, while libraries, state-rooms and cabins were decorated in a range of architectural styles to appeal to the tastes of the most discerning passenger. The world marvelled at this opulent ship, and White Star endeavoured to capture the public's interest through the release of advertisements, brochures and other publicity material. In addition passengers were provided with a wealth of information to ensure they enjoyed the voyage to the fullest. Titanic A Passenger's Guide is a unique guide to all these aspects of the ship, incorporating authentic period literature - from sources including White Star Line themselves, Harland & Wolff shipyards, the International Mercantile Marine Company (White Star Line's owners) and important publications from the 1910's such as The Shipbuilder.

I have scores and scores of books on the Titanic (even the 2 volume Holy Grail: Titanic: Ship Magnificent) and find this short little book quite amazing.First: It is a book made from very high quality materials. It would be very suitable as a gift.
Second: It is packed with information that is to the point!
Third: Lots of graphics and pictures I have not seen before.
A worthy addition to any Titanic enthusiast's collection.

Titanic PocketBook John Blake 9781844861484 Books Reviews
I have read dozens of books about the Titanic disaster. This wonderful little book is loaded with intricate details and fun facts not found (for the most part) in other Titanic books. If you are a true Titanic enthusiast, I hightly recommend this book.

There's a whole lot of great information contained between these covers. Great photos and period art work, too. My only critism is the deck plan used for Titanic - It was the Olympic... There are plans of Titanic they could have used instead since there was quite a bit of difference between the two ships. Overall - I would recommend this little book to anyone who has even a casual interest in Titanic.
Love it. Great packing was fast. Wonderful
i didn't order this
Great book!! Lots of great info packed into a small package.
This book is based on an interesting conceit, but wouldn't have helped Titanic's passengers anymore than they were on the day of its sinking. There is no mention of basic details like third-class, single men being quartered in the bow, or ironic notes such as escape routes for second or third-class passengers. Nice idea though.
As the Preface states, "This guide is ...one such as could have been given to a passenger on board the RMS Titanic of the White Star Line on her maiden voyage from Southampton Docks on 10th April 1912, to be read at leisure during the Atlantic crossing." The text, compiled from various primary sources such as technical publications and White Star Line publicity brochures, covers the design, construction, and operation of the Titanic, as well as First and Second Class accomodations, facilities, and services. The pages contain many dozens of period illustrations of the ship and her furnishings.
I am certain that many a Titanic buff will happily engage in the fantasy that he or she is browsing through this compact guidebook, seated in the Titanic's Lounge or Smoke Room, while the great ship rushes across the dark April waters, the pulse of her engines throbbing from below. "Steward, another whiskey-and-water! There's a chill in the air tonight."
